David Cairns, the Minister of State at the Scotland Office, recently opened an event at the Offshore Northern Seas conference in Stavanger.
The Minister was in Stavanger to support the UK oil and gas industry at the annual major international event. Along with formal engagements, he visited around 25 Scottish companies at the exhibition, representing a wide cross-section of the oil and gas supply chain, to hear their plans for future growth and ways in which the UK Government can continue to support the industry.
The UK Trade and Investment seminar featured industry presentations from the UK, Norway and Russia outlining the challenges and opportunities of the Northern Waters of Norway and Russia which promise to be the new global energy frontier.
The seminar examined the partnership potential between the three nations as it tackles the technical challenges of infrastructure and labour shortages surrounding a number of potential developments, one of which includes the giant Russian Shtokman gas field.
David Cairns said: "The opportunity to align the significant oil and gas experience of these three nations together presents a huge opportunity in terms of knowledge and momentum in opening up new opportunities across the globe. The UK has helped lead the way in developing innovative technologies, skills and approaches which can be transferred to emerging locations around the world and that investment continues to pay off as it is used to explore the new energy frontiers of the 21st century."
