Sandra Osborne MP, Member of Parliament for Ayr, was today appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Scotland Office Minister George Foulkes.
Speaking after her appointment today, Mrs Osborne said:
"I am honoured and delighted to have been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister of State. George Foulkes and I have worked together in the past on a range of Ayrshire issues, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work together again on a wider Ministerial portfolio."
George Foulkes said:
"Since her election in 1997, Sandra has been an effective constituency MPs and a powerful performer in the Commons. I am very pleased that she has agreed to be my PPS, and know that she will continue to make a great contribution to promote the interests of Scotland."
Born and brought up in Renfrewshire, Mrs Osborne was educated at Camphill Secondary School, Paisley. In 1992 she gained a MSc from Strathclyde University in Equality and Discrimination.
Mrs Osborne served as a Councillor on Kyle and Carrick District Council and South Ayrshire Council for six years before becoming an MP. She was elected to Parliament in 1997.
Mrs Osborne is married with two children. Her special interests include women's rights, in particular tackling the problem of violence against women.
