"Minister of State, George Foulkes MP"

26 Jan 2001

Mr George Foulkes MP, Member of Parliament for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley was appointed Minister of State at the Scotland Office on 25 January 2001.

Speaking after his appointment Mr Foulkes said:

"I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed Minister of State at the Scotland Office. I feel very privileged to have been asked to represent my country at this level and look forward to carrying on the work of my predecessor, Brian Wilson.

"While this is my first formal appointment in Scottish politics, I have over the years maintained a keen interest in Scottish affairs, and will bring both experience and commitment to the post.

"The enormous constitutional change brought about by devolution is now firmly established as part of the UK's political environment. I look forward now to working with the new Secretary of State Helen Liddell and the Scottish Government to forge a lasting partnership that will continue to deliver both for the people of Scotland and the UK."
