There's still time to respond to vital Aviation Consultation- Liddell

05 Nov 2002

Scottish Secretary Helen Liddell today reminded Scots to get involved in the debate on the future of air services - before the 30 November deadline.

Helen Liddell made the call on the day she hosted a briefing for Scottish MPs on issues raised in the Government's consultation on aviation policy. The Scottish Secretary was joined at the briefing by Transport Minister John Spellar.

Mrs Liddell said:

"The future of air services is of vital importance to the economy of Scotland, and this consultation exercise provides a unique opportunity for those who use the aviation sector to help Government shape the future.

"This is the biggest consultation ever on the future of air services in Scotland, and I am looking for all key players to make their voices heard. The consultation is important for all, from local authorities, to airlines, airports, air transport users, businesses and those living near to airports.

"It is important we capture as wide a range of views to better inform our policies. The decisions made at the end of the consultation through the Aviation White Paper will determine the development of the aviation industry in Scotland over the next 30 years and beyond.

"We have consulted widely, through business breakfasts, industry workshops and public exhibitions in Edinburgh and Glasgow. However I urge those who have not already done so to submit responses by the end of November 2002 when the consultation process ends."
