Elections and boundaries

The Secretary of State for Scotland has a number of statutory functions in relation to elections and boundaries in Scotland. The Elections and Boundaries Team supports him and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the delivery of these functions. The team's main role is:

  • To ensure, in partnership with Ministry of Justice, the Scottish Government, the Electoral Commission and electoral administrators, the successful conduct of elections in Scotland;
  • To make secondary legislation for Scottish Parliament elections, and contribute to primary and secondary legislation regarding UK and European elections; and
  • To ensure that necessary controls and sponsorship arrangements are in place for the Link opens in new windowBoundary Commission for Scotland and to oversee the process of its boundary reviews and enact its recommendations.
