Secretary of State to attend Scottish Cabinet

19 Apr 2009

The Secretary of State for Scotland Jim Murphy welcomed the chance to work more closely with the Scottish Government to help Scotland through the downturn, following the First Minister's acceptance of his offer to attend the Scottish Cabinet.

Jim Murphy  said:

"I am glad the First Minister has accepted my offer to make a presentation to the Scottish Cabinet. It comes after John Swinney accepted the central importance of the UK Government and the part it will play in getting Scotland through the downturn when he agreed to the joint publication of the Real Help for Scotland document.

"I welcome the recognition this is a time for the UK Government and Scottish Government to work together for Scotland. All Scots will appreciate this change of tone from the First Minister. I very much look forward to attending the Scottish Cabinet, as I told the First Minister I would in my letter last Saturday and at dinner with the Prime Minister last week"
