Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce is delighted that Jim Murphy MP, the Secretary of State for Scotland, has agreed to be the guest of honour at its forthcoming 'High Noon 2' Lunch. The Secretary of State will join two local businesses - Colin Herron of McCain Potatoes and Derek Marshall from the Factory Skatepark - in addressing over 100 Chamber members and their guests at this prestigious event.
Gary Langlands, President of Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, said:
"We are absolutely delighted that the Secretary of State for Scotland has accepted our invitation to speak to our members. The challenges facing local businesses because of the current economic slowdown are well documented and it is absolutely vital that Jim Murphy and all of his colleagues in the UK Government are fully aware of the support that businesses in Dundee and Angus expect to weather these challenges. As the premier 'voice' for local business, the Chamber is delighted to have organised this event, and we are looking forward to the debate and discussion with the Minister."
Chris Lundie, Managing Director of event sponsor The Covert Group, said:
"Covert is proud to support this event. The Secretary of State is the latest in a series of high profile and influential decision makers that the Chamber has brought to the area, and we are delighted that we are able to help our fellow Chamber members to get their views across to such an important political figure."
Jim Murphy MP, Secretary of State for Scotland, said:
"I am very much looking forward to speaking to the Chamber and hearing the range of views among its members. We are facing unprecedented economic challenges and the UK Government is working around the clock to put measures in place to help businesses and employers across Scotland and the UK.
"The Government's recent announcement of a package to address the cashflow, credit and investment needs of SMEs ? including the Working Capital Scheme, the Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme and the Capital for Enterprise Fund - is an important step and one which will no doubt be a focus of our discussions."
"I value the opportunity to hear first hand from businesses in Tayside and their responses will no doubt help inform the approach of the UK Government as we tackle the issues together."
