Secretary of State welcomes interim Digital Britain report

29 Jan 2009

Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy has welcomed Lord Carter's comments relating to Scottish broadcasting in his interim report on 'Digital Britain' published today.

Jim Murphy said:

"This is a comprehensive report which, among many other insights, contains a welcome contribution to the debate on Scottish broadcasting. In the light of Ofcom's 2nd Review of Public Service Broadcasting published last week, I'm pleased that 'Digital Britain' acknowledges the desire in Scotland for a stronger, more distinctive national voice that isn't limited just to broadcasting. Andy Burnham and I will be talking directly to broadcasters at the Broadcasting Summit we are hosting in March, and I'm sure this will feature high on the agenda.

"I look forward to seeing the Digital Britain roadshows come to Scotland in the spring, and encourage all Scots with an interest in the issues to go along and make their voices heard."
